Welcome to the Parish Council website
Situated in West Yorkshire, the villages of Barwick in Elmet & Scholes lie in a green belt area to the east of Leeds. Around 4,000 parishioners live in the two wards of Barwick in Elmet and Scholes which comprise a little over 2,000 residential properties, a small area of light industrial buildings with the remaining land used for farming.
The parish celebrations of the Queens Diamond Jubilee have been finalised and are documented within the News section.
There are major housing developments planned for Barwick and Scholes. A Neighbourhood Development Plan Steering Group has now been formed, it covers both villages and has its own website: www.barwickandscholesneighbourhoodplan.co.uk. All future information referring to any housing developments will appear on the new website.
One of the pre-requisites of a Neighbourhood Development Plan is that the Parish Council must create and adopt a Statement of Community Involvement. This has now been prepared and if you click on the following link, you will be able to read the document. In accordance with national guidance this is now in the public consultation phase, for a 6 week period. Please send any responses to the Parish Clerk, Chris Hassell, Chessingham, Elmwood Lane, Barwick in Elmet, LS15 4JX or by e.mail to chrisdhassell@hotmail.com before 12 noon on the 11th May 2012.
Open this link in a new window and it will display a google map showing the Parish Council boundary which is zoomable, searchable and has streetview incorporated too
The community is well served by two primary schools, a number of churches, small shops and businesses, as well as sports clubs and associations. Public transport systems link the villages with the city of Leeds and within a few miles of the parish boundaries one can join the motorway network.

We hope you find the website informative and helpful and will allow the residents of the parish to communicate better with the Parish Council. Together, we can raise our quality of life so please get involved in forming the future of the community and protect what is best about living in our parish.
See the Freedom of Information page for the minutes from previous council meetings and the agenda for the forthcoming meeting.
