Welcome to the Parish Council website

Situated in West Yorkshire, the villages of Barwick in Elmet & Scholes lie in a green belt area to the east of Leeds. Around 4,000 parishioners live in the two wards of Barwick in Elmet and Scholes which comprise a little over 2,000 residential properties, a small area of light industrial buildings with the remaining land used for farming.

Currently there is a vacancy for a Parish Councillor in the Scholes Ward. If you are interested in applying, please see the following link and contact the Clerk to the Parish Council - Chris Hassell.

There are  major housing developments planned for Barwick and Scholes. Please see the new website page - Neighbourhood Plan, to see details of the proposals and the progress to date of the newly formed Steering Group who will be putting together a Neighbourhood Plan for the two villages.

Open this link in a new window and it will display a google map showing the Parish Council boundary which is zoomable, searchable and has streetview incorporated too

The community is well served by two primary schools, a number of churches, small shops and businesses, as well as sports clubs and associations. Public transport systems link the villages with the city of Leeds and within a few miles of the parish boundaries one can join the motorway network.

We hope you find the website informative and helpful and will allow the residents of the parish to communicate better with the Parish Council. Together, we can raise our quality of life so please get involved in forming the future of the community and protect what is best about living in our parish.

See the Freedom of Information page for the minutes from previous council meetings and the agenda for the forthcoming meeting.
